Meditation is something that is widely known about in the press and social media. There have been all sorts of claims about how beneficial meditation can be. In particular, the surge in recent years of Mindfulness as a way to relax, destress, calm the mind and relieve anxiety has exploded and is worth according to Google:
The global mindfulness meditation application market was valued at $97.6 million in 2021 and is projected to reach $307.1 million by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 12.4% from 2022 to 2031. COVID-19 has forced billions of organizations around the world to adopt remote work policies.
Other sources suggest:
The mindfulness meditation application market size is projected to grow from $533.2 million in 2022 to $2,633.4 million by 2028; it is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 30.5% from 2022 to 2028.
Its huge. But did you know that mindfulness meditation is based on the Buddhist Shamatha Vispassana practice of meditation? Also, to learn mindfulness meditation can cost a great deal of money. At a London Mindfulness training centre, the 8 week course costs £295. Once the course is done however, you are most likely left on your own and that is when some people turn to Buddhist groups to try to find some support and guidance with their practice. It has been shown that people who practice mindfulness meditation for 10 minutes every day for 8 weeks will see immediate and significant health benefits. A search for research on the internet will produce a wealth of information.
My questions is, Why is it that people want to learn to meditate and pay £295 for an 8 weeks course with no further back up and support?
